The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the United States on five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures that were at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
