The Lakers superstar will be absent for approximately a month and is set to miss the start of the league campaign because of sciatic nerve pain, LA Lakers stated.

The player, 40, signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the month of June and is set to become the first athlete to participate across 23 separate NBA seasons.

Sciatic pain refers to discomfort in the nerve that travels down the spine and down the leg.

James has not taken part in preseason and was out for the losses against the Warriors and the Suns recently due to the nerve issue.

The veteran is projected to sit out for every one of the five of the Lakers' games in the month of October, which includes the season-opener against Golden State Warriors.

James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has always been present for the start of the campaign in his two-decade-plus career.

His count of one thousand five hundred sixty-two matches participated in is only 50 away than breaking former Boston star Robert Parish's all-time record.

The champion played in seventy of the Lakers' eighty-two games last season and was active for 71 matches in the previous year.

In the most recent campaign, James averaged over 24 points, 8.2 assists per game and 7.8 rebounds per game and finished sixth in the MVP award vote.

The Lakers made it to the postseason in 2024-25 but fell 4-1 against the Timberwolves in the opening round.
