Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice

McLaren drivers in action — The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.

The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.

Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.

His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.

The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the main straight.

Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
