That Grisly Cartoon Film Ending That Haunts Audiences

Out of every adult-oriented animated films I have ever viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, the Spain-based filmmaker developed a grim, melancholy and frequently brutal universe that included some tiny , desolate hints of hope.

Although Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a desire to expand animation further, the director explained that it was rather a try to communicate a global, cross-cultural message about “the common origin of each battle.”

That idea is expressed through a band of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a well-known line of lovable figures.

Growing up in a society focused on militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, many of the bears are consumed by killing the mythical beasts, because of a sacred text that tells the bears they previously were rulers of the woodland, until the unicorns expelled them.

Others haven’t fully fallen for the indoctrination, and prefer to sample drugs or engage sexually outdoors.

Unlike their cuddly counterparts, these colorful critters show sexual organs , definite libidos.

For a certain notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the conflict with unicorns transforms into a road toward dominance — and specifically to authority over his more tender, nicer brother the character Tubby.

The character acts as a tormentor and an obvious antisocial figure , and when horror overcomes his group and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he grabs more and more control for himself, in increasingly violent, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, the unicorns are suffering their own horror, in the form of a spreading, destructive monster in their forest.

“In the early stages, it feels like a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “But then it becomes a more intense and sad movie. And by the end, it becomes a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the more playful features from an iconic filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in permitting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.

Subsequently it turns into closer to a more grim movie from that creator, featuring progressively graphic violence , a tangible relation to the real suffering of war.

Ultimately, it’s an outright theatrical horror massacre.

The fear that makes the film a perfect Halloween watch starts well before than indicated.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who wish to see a film they’ve never viewed until now, and who can handle a plot that offers unflinching brutality.

Watch it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will crawl under your skin and take up residence there.
