The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
