A charity drive is aiming to send a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The track features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
